Winter is officially here! To kick off our start to winter the students had a winter clothing relay! Our J Term helper Brooke helped us label our winter clothing self portraits and then we practiced getting ready to head out in the snow!
We also found our new favorite site! Wonderopolis.com helped us learn all about hibernation and how animals hibernate in the winter! After reading the book "Hibernation Station" and reading all about hibernation on Wonderopolis, we created our own hibernation stations full of the things you would need to hibernate in the winter! The students did a great job using their imaginations and supplies to create their own hibernation stations! Here are a few examples of our hibernation stations:
Oh yes, and we had to get a very little taste of what it felt like to hibernate:
Last week in discovery we learned all about polar bears! This week we will be learning about penguins. Be sure to ask the students about all of the information they have learned about polar bears! In language arts last week we learned about the vowel U. We also learned about a new reading strategy called stretchy the snake. He taught us to stretch out the letters in a word to help us read and write words we do not know.
