Apples and Johnny Appleseed

This week we learned all about Johnny Appleseed and apples. We started the week by taste testing apples to figure out the different characteristics between red, yellow and green apples. We used our sense of taste to help us recognize the difference between the each apple.

Next, we became apple investigators as we found out the height, weight and different characteristics of our apples we brought to school. We even took a print of our apple using ink pads. Here are some pictures of our investigation

We also learned about Johnny Appleseed and his adventure West to plant apples around the United States. Here is our Johnny Appleseed apple person where we each decorated our apple print to look like Johnny Appleseed and wrote a fact about Johnny Appleseed.

We also made ourselves look like Johnny Appleseed!

One of our favorite parts of learning about Johnny Appleseed was making a Blabberize Johnny Appleseed character. We got to talk into the computer and Johnny Appleseed would repeat what we would say. We came up with many great facts about Johnny Appleseed that he could repeat!

At the end of the week we made applesauce! We discussed the many great foods that have apples in them and we made a graph of our favorite way to eat apples!

Just a reminder that we will be going to the pumpkin patch on Friday, October 5th. We will be leaving the school around 8:45 and will return before 2:30. Please send appropriate clothing and tennis shoes for the trip. There will be a sack lunch provided using their school lunch account. It should be a great trip for the kindergarteners!

Also, I have sent an October show and share calendar home in the Friday folders. I have also updated the blog as well so you can see the updated calendar on the link.

Last week was another great week in kindergarten! We will be learning all about pumpkins this week!
